I want my Domino 8 server to relay mail to my ISP server, which requires SMTP authentication to accept incoming mail.
Reading in the document of Lotus Administration Help “Enabling SMTP outbound authentication to relay hosts”, it seems that Domino can authenticate the way that I want if I change the field “Use authentication when sending messages to the relay host”.
But after changing this and the other related fields (user and password), I find that Domino behaves differently of what I would expect. The output of SMTPClientDebug shows (among other things):
SMTPClient: SMTP Authentication is required by local server. Username: XXXX
SMTPClient: Disconnecting - SMTP Authentication User Name is missing for host HOST.MYISP.COM.
Router: No messages transferred to MYISP.COM (host HOST.MYISP.COM) via SMTP: SMTP Authentication is required by local server but failed
Router: Failed to connect to SMTP host HOST.MYISP.COM because SMTP Authentication is required by local server but failed
Router: No messages transferred to MYISP.COM (host MYISP.COM) via SMTP: SMTP Authentication is required by local server but failed
It seems that Domino is expecting the ISP server to authenticate against Domino, the other way around of what is required by my ISP (and of what is implied in the Administration Help).
